In Florida, wind rating isn't an option. It's the first question. The Florida Building Code applies statewide, and design wind speeds are among the highest in the country, especially along the coasts and in South Florida.
Omega quotes Florida buildings engineered for the wind speed at your exact address, with drawings for your permit. Miami-Dade and Broward counties fall in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, which has its own stricter product approval requirements, so let us know up front if you're building there.
Wind is the controlling load almost everywhere in Florida. Higher-rated buildings use closer truss spacing, heavier framing, more bracing and more anchors. Salt air on both coasts makes corrosion-resistant panels and quality paint systems important. Snow load is not a factor.
Go vertical. It's the strongest in wind and sheds Florida's heavy rain best.

The Florida Building Code applies statewide and is enforced by counties and cities. Permits are standard for carports, garages and enclosed buildings, and engineered drawings for your site's wind speed are typically required. Miami-Dade and Broward counties are in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone with additional product approval rules. Flood zones can also affect your foundation.
Rules change and vary by county and city. Always confirm with your local building department before ordering. How permits and engineering work → What affects your price →

Omega tip for FLORIDA buyers
Ask your building department which edition of the Florida Building Code they enforce and what wind speed they want on your drawings. Getting that right up front prevents plan review delays.
