Warranty coverage is provided by the manufacturer that builds and installs your building. Your order paperwork includes the full written warranty, and its terms govern your coverage.

What Your Warranty Covers

20-Year Frame Warranty

Your building's steel frame is covered against rust-through for 20 years. This applies to both 14-gauge and 12-gauge framing. If a frame component rusts through to the point of structural weakness during the coverage period, the failed part is replaced under the terms of your manufacturer's warranty.

10-Year Panel Warranty

Roof and wall panels are covered for 10 years against chipping and cracking, and against rust-through that weakens the panel. If a panel fails during the coverage period, it's replaced under the terms of your manufacturer's warranty.

30-Day Workmanship Warranty

Every installed carport and metal building, regardless of gauge, includes a 30-day workmanship warranty. It covers problems caused by how the building was manufactured or installed, such as misaligned doors, loose trim or improperly fastened panels. Walk through your building on installation day and report anything you notice right away.

What about certification?

Certification isn't a separate warranty. A certified building comes with engineered drawings showing it's designed for the wind speed and snow load required at your address. That's what your building department looks for, and it's what keeps your building standing up to local weather. Learn about certification →

Warranty Limitations

Every warranty has limits. Here's what typically isn't covered, so there are no surprises.

Not covered

  • Damage from acts of nature, such as floods, earthquakes, lightning, fallen trees, or wind and snow beyond your building's rated design loads
  • Normal wear and tear, including fading and surface weathering over time
  • Damage caused by lack of basic maintenance
  • Damage from accidents, vehicles or equipment hitting the building
  • Problems caused by an uneven, unstable or improperly prepared foundation

What can void your warranty

  • Modifying the structure yourself, such as cutting into the frame, adding openings or attaching other structures
  • Removing or changing the anchors
  • Moving the building after installation without the manufacturer's involvement
  • Ignoring a problem until it causes further damage

Want to add a door, window, lean-to or extension later? Call us first. We'll coordinate the change with your manufacturer so your coverage stays intact.

How to Keep Your Warranty Valid

Steel buildings need very little upkeep: no painting, staining or sealing. A few simple habits protect both your building and your coverage.

  • Keep your paperwork. Store your order number, invoice and warranty document somewhere safe. Your order number is the fastest way to locate your building's records.

  • Rinse it off. Hose down roof and wall panels once or twice a year, especially near salt air, fertilizer or road salt.

  • Clear heavy snow. Don't let snow build up beyond your building's rated snow load, especially on regular and boxed eave roofs.

  • Check after storms. Look over anchors, screws, trim and panels after major storms and report damage promptly.

  • Keep water moving. Make sure water drains away from the base of the building and isn't pooling against the frame.

  • Touch up scratches. Use touch-up paint on scratches that expose bare metal to help prevent rust.

  • Ask before you modify. Talk to us before adding anything to the structure.

Need to File a Warranty Claim? We'll Help You Through It.

Metal Building Warranty FAQs

Who provides the warranty on my building?

Your warranty is provided by the manufacturer that builds and installs your building. The full written warranty is included in your order paperwork. Omega helps you understand your coverage and supports you through any claim.

How long is the warranty on a metal building?

Most buildings include a 20-year rust-through warranty on the frame, a 10-year warranty on roof and wall panels, and a 30-day workmanship warranty. Your order paperwork lists the exact terms for your building.

Does the warranty cover 12-gauge and 14-gauge frames?

Yes. The 20-year frame rust-through warranty applies to both 14-gauge and 12-gauge framing.

Is storm damage covered?

Damage from acts of nature, such as floods, lightning, fallen trees, or wind and snow beyond your building's rated loads, generally isn't covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Check with your homeowner's insurance about storm coverage. A building rated for your local wind and snow loads is your best protection.

What voids a metal building warranty?

Common causes include modifying the structure yourself, removing or changing anchors, moving the building, and lack of basic maintenance. Call us before making any changes.

How do I file a warranty claim?

Take photos of the issue, find your order number, and contact the manufacturer listed on your paperwork. Let Omega know too, and we'll follow up with the manufacturer and help until it's resolved.

What if I can't find my order paperwork?

Contact Omega with your name and installation address. We'll look up your order number and your manufacturer's contact information.

Is certification a warranty?

No. Certification means your building is engineered for the wind and snow loads required at your address. It's separate from the warranty, but it's an important part of making sure your building performs.

This page summarizes typical manufacturer warranty coverage. The written warranty included with your order governs your coverage, and terms can vary by manufacturer and building. If anything on this page differs from your written warranty, your written warranty applies.
